Sunday 23 December
Overall it was about a 2 hour drive to our next stop at Tadlo. En route we sampled our first waterfall which was quite impressive even though this is the dry season.
Stuart decided to try what looked like toasted honeycomb - but it seemed to turn out to be a toasted honeycomb but mature enough fro the grubs to have developed - an interesting taste. Luckily by the falls was a wee coffee shack so they managed to rustle up a cappuccino.
Onward we arrived at the Tadlo Falls which was also our destination for the night. It is a complex of falls and rapids on the river. We had lunch which was a bit of an indication of what was to come.
The room was a trifle disappointing as we had been promised falling asleep with the sound of the waterfall. No such luck as we were way back from the river in mosquito mecca. Almost a can of Baygon later the floor was littered with an array of large mosquitos.
At 1630 the 2 resident elephants go for a river bath. Of course TripAdvisor reviews are a buzz with outrage - ‘you can see the sadness in their eyes’ wrote one worried guest. Seemingly they are 55 and 75 tears old so probably happy to be fed and watered rather than dragging logs through the forest !
Dinner was a disappointment - we waited an hour for the fish and only one plate turned up. Seemingly the kitchen forgot. bemused looks all around and a very bad TripAdvisor review was posted.
