Saturday 20 December
After breakfast in the hotel - we arrived at 0930 - we finally set off into Udaipur about midday ! Our destination was the City Palace - a somewhat rambling but nether the less impressive Palace of the local ruler - the Mewar.
Today it is a major commercial enterprise with a hotel and restaurants but well worth the visit with grand views over the lake.
Sunday 21 December
Today we headed back to the palace this time to take the boat trip on the Lake after a leisurely coffee ad a piece of apple pie.
Although it is cold at night during the day it is very pleasant in the sun.
The boat took things at a leisurely pace and ended up at an island in the lake once the sole domain of the ruler - but now a tourist hotel and restaurant.
For dinner we braved the cold and went to a highly recommended rooftop restaurant at a Haveli on the Lal Ghat. Both the food and the view were spectacular.
Monday 22 December
Another leisurely day - the highlight was trying to find a laundry to was the clothes and we bought a few knick knacks. We also met the friend of our trishaw driver who has a Tata taxi - and we booked a day trip to Eklingji for Tuesday with a 1100 start.
For dinner we headed to a Tripadvisor ‘fine dining’ restaurant the Navidya , apart from the fact that being ‘pure veg’ and therefore had no alcohol the food was a well deserved ‘excellent’. We had desert beans, a mixed lentil dhal and for the first time ‘battie’ which is a deep fried stuffed potato ball.
