Thursday 25 December
Having been quoted an outrageous price for the 5 hour ride to Jodhpur at the hotel we found the Rajasthan Taxi booth near the entrance to the City Palace and settled on a INR 5500 fare.
Leaving Udaipur the road is a dual carriageway although in parts it is still being built. As this part of India is sparsely populated the road is actually quiet with only the occasional cow, flock of sheep and a camel or two. Night travel in India is not to be recommended!
The main road to Jodhpur is in fact a side road that takes you past Ranakpur and the Jain temple complex.
Our final stop was a ’family run’ Dhurrie shop where we ended up with two cotton and silk dhurries for INR 7000 about GBP 70.
