Thursday 3 October
Having met at Milan Malpensa courtesy of Easyjet (one from Edinburgh and the other from Paris) the first task - after a coffee - was to get the hire car. As we had booked frugally the car hire was off airport. After a long wait for the minibus the Firefly rep arrived and off we headed. Finally we drove of in a Opel Insignia which was a bit scratched and battered but roomy !!
Our first stop was Trieste a 4 hour drive to the east and our destination the Hotel Victoria. This was in town and an old family run hotel which had recently been remodelled.
Unfortunately despite Stuart's initial predictions of warm and balmy nights (we both packed shorts) the reality was wet and a cool 15 degrees.
The hotel recommended a nearby eatery which unfortunately was very meaty - so after some wandering through seemingly deserted streets we came accross a busy local eatery and had the menu of the day.
