Sunday 23 December - one of the questions of the day is where actually are we? The hotel itself is not listed in the Lonely Planet guide so that's no help. The only thing it says about the town is that sometimes Kumily is referred to as Thekkady and vice versa.
Undaunted and having had breakfast of cereal and stuffed dosa we headed off on foot taking a right turn out of the hotel. Very quickly we left the town and apart from the crazy traffic and constant tooting of horns it was a pleasant walk. Unfortunately the small town that we thought was a short way down the road appeared illusive and after a coffee and several kms we hailed a passing tri-shaw and headed back.
As it was about 1400 we started looking for lunch and did come across the busy Orchid Restaurant in a modernist hotel on Lake Road (or thats what we think it was called !). Vegetable curry, dhal, rice and chapatis all 220 INR.
Just next door was an Ayurvedic massage and treatment centre and we headed in there for a relaxing treatment. Ayurvedic is basically a hearty rub down with medicinal oils followed by a 15 minute steam. All refreshing and good for the skin.
