Wednesday 15 November
A 0615 wake up call and after a good breakfast buffet we headed back to the airport to catch a Jet Lite fight to Guwahati. Things were really fairly smooth at the airport and we even managed to stop by Costa's for a coffee and tea.
The flight was 2 hours and had we been on the left side of the aircraft we would have had a good view of a snow capped Mt Everest ! Arrival at Guwahati airport and we knew we were back in India. Walking across the tarmac things looked somewhat chaotic but the bags did appear.
Our plan was to stop at a supermarket for a few essentials - most importantly insect spray but our driver was not a local so we need up heading to Big Bazar. On the one hand a trip down memory lane but a hour’s drive to cover a few miles and then they did not have bottled water.
Setting off we crossed the Brahmaputra heading north west toward Manus National Park. Immediately on the other side of the river it became rural although there was a dual carriageway. Of course being India cars and trucks used the wrong carriageway and goats and cows grazed on the central reservation. It was slowing for a goat that almost end in a very nasty pile up as the car and lorry behind did not anticipate us stopping in the outside lane.
As the sun set we still had a hour’s drive to reach the Musa Jungle Resort just outside the gates of Manus National Park. We made it safely and after a hot shower had a pleasant veggie dinner and a Kingfisher beer.
