Wednesday 2 May -despite a slight hiccup en route to Xi'An airport as to whether or not we really were getting met at Guilin airport we were. Guilin airport, like many Chinese airports is not actually that close to Guilin (Ryanair may well have learnt their creative approach to their own European route map here in China) and is more correctly known as Guilin Liangjiang International airport and handles over 5 million passengers a year !
We were met by what turned out to be a local taxi - a VW Santana - which is the ubiquitous taxi across China. Luckily it has a volumes boot and once our bags were loaded our lady driver headed off at a sedate pace. Out of the airport we did not head on to the toll road but took the parallel service road before turning off on a mud track to avoid the toll gate before rejoining the expressway in the Sinopec station !
Some hour later we turned off the road onto a unpaved surfaced road and bounced our way down the backroads to Jiu Xian village. We pulled up outside the Secret Garden and made our way in. The hotel is small and is sited in restored Qing dynasty village buildings. Check out the website:
