26 December 2011 - Today the alarm went even earlier at 0630 as we were due to go ashore to Châu Dôc at 0830.
Our first stop was one of the many fish farms that are along the river in Viet Nam. The construction is simply a floating platform that is tethered to the river bed. On the platform the family lives or at least the fisherman and tends the fish. The platform we visited was large and contained 100,000 fish ! Tilapia and Catfish (Basa).
Next off to the market which was a lively place at this bustling border town and typical of the SE Asian markets. We did buy a woven basket. Finally a quick tour of town in a pedal-cycle and back to the ship which was tied up next to the Pandaw Mekong.
Heading upstream we stopped at the border for the various formalities that may or may not have included lubricating the wheels of officialdom. What immediately strikes you on the Cambodian side is how much less built up the river banks are and no fish farms.
The next stop is Phomn Penh some 100 kms upstream.
