Wednesday 25 January
Getting to Sea Lion Island required a flight to Stanley and then another 40 minute flight to the south and the offshore Sea lIon Island. The island itself is not large and its highest point is a 100 metres however its grass attract a variety of birds and of course Sea Lions. We arrived in time for lunch although the vegetarian requirement seemed not to have arrived so the pizza had to have the bacon scraped off. Fortified we set off for a drive to key points on the island the first stop was two groups of Elephant Seals resting at the base of the cliff. Next Rockhopper Penguins who were nesting on some truly spectacular cliffs. And finally the Magellanic Penguins who take a more practical view of life and live in burrows on the grass slopes. After dinner as the sun set we headed to the beach for some spectacular evening shots. |
