Bangalore was surprisingly cool overnight but the water was hot in the shower and the kettle in the room worked. That was until the electricity went off. The hotel's generator did finally kick in.
Breakfast was by the pool and much confusion was cause by Stuart - who instead of sticking with the set breakfast menu decided to go a la carte and ordered 'Dosa Makhani". Two poached eggs turned up although after the personal intervention of the chef, a dosa did arrive.
Our flight to Kochi (Cochin) had been rescheduled a few days earlier and was due to depart at 1310 and so after a quick guided tour of the resort facilities we headed back to the airport.
Our first time on Indigo - who it seems last year placed an order for 180 Airbus 320's - and landing in Kochi, at 11 degrees north and 26 feet asl, things were much warmer
Our destination was Thekkady - as it turned out a 5 hour drive inland - and we were pleased to see our driver waiting as it had been an involved process to get the hotel to come and pick us up. Outside stood our car an Indica and in best Indian style one of our cases had to be strapped to the roof and off we set.
Once away from Kochi the roads were not very busy and we made our way through small towns with rubber and pineapple plantations gradually climbing up to pepper, tea and coffee estates.
By the time we reached the Greenwoods Resort it was dark but the hotel on the edge of town turned out to be a green oasis with rooms in brick houses in the grounds.
