Saturday 14 December - we did manage to leave Airlie Beach about 1000 to start another long drive south to Rockhampton - some 500 kms.
Our destination was Yepoon - our so we thought but having arrived on the outskirts we saw a bill board for the Rainforest Ranch, our destination, which said it was in Byfield a further 43 kms. A quick call confirmed and and after a stop at the BP station we set off on a final leg with some trepidation as the Lonely Planet described Byfield as 'as mall cluster of houses with a general store'.
We did just make it before the sun set at about 1830 and down a gravel track came to the reception. The resort consists of two cabins - well that is an understatement as it was more of a cottage. however the number one need was to sort out dinner as the prospect of a 40 k drive back to Yepoon was not enticing. Luckily as it was Saturday night Fern's resort down the road was offering dinner so our hosts booked us in and after unloading the car off we set the 1 km.
Saturday night was live entertainment night and the place was packed. Even more surprising the menu had 2 vegetarian options ! At this point of our journey we know we are deep in rural Australia and hearty food - none of it healthy, casual dress which may or may not include shoes are the order of the day.
