Friday 6 April - we woke to almost clear skies and a view of the mountain ridge and the snow capped peaks however by the time we had finished breakfast the clouds were back although the sky was blue.
Before heading off we took advantage of the bright day to visit the Pemayangste Gompa which is one of Sikkim's oldest. It is set on a hilltop with a magnificent three story prayer hall where a small group of novices were chanting accompanied by a drum and Himalayan trumpet.
The drive to Gangtok started in the same direction as our visit to the lake down through Pelling through Tikjik to Legship. We then seemed to take the backroads up fairly vertical valley sides and seemingly then down again. We stopped for lunch at Tarku before the a further 16 km to Singtam and the a further 30 kms to Gangtok. The final leg was on a wide but very busy road in part due to the fact that in the valley a new hydro-electric project was underway.
We arrived at our final Elgin destination was the Nor-Khill hotel another heritage hotel in a quiet part of Gangtok, the capital if Sikkim.
