Monday 2 December - the ship was due to dock at the island at 0800 which it duly did however after that things broke down in a tropical way. We were scheduled for transport to the town - the 'best available' - and a cultural performance and a tour of the Rajah's house. However given some break down in communications although the Harbourmaster must have been expecting us nobody else was !
So we finally set off the 10 minute ride to town by small van and spent our time wandering around the market and the various streets which presented many a photo opportunity.
The island itself has a long history associated with the Spice trade and was the site of a Dutch fortress which was to protect their interests from the Portuguese to the north.
