11 January 2023 - Embarkation
Pick up from the hotel went smoothly apart from the fact the 52-seater coach was not built for the by roads and alleyways of old Calcutta.
Crossing the Hoogly we made our way through a small village on the banks to the berth where the Pandaw Katha was moored. The challenge of fitting all our luggage into the cabin which was dominated by an outsized bed became apparent immediately.
We began a stately sail up the river passing under the xx bridge up. To our first stop at Chandannagar. This was a French trading settlement on the Hoogly from the 1700’s to 1950.
