Tuesday 21 November
Another early start setting off at 0545 for - you guessed it - an Elephant Safari. Kaziranga does have a greater density of animals and so we did see a lot. But the highlight must be Stuart who managed to drop his mobile phone into the long grass while sitting on the elephant ! Luckily it had been trained to pick them up with its trunk and hand it back - a whole new meaning of a trunk call.
Heading back for breakfast we had a short break before the National Orchid collection beckoned. Despite that fact that the orchids really bloom to April and May it was an impressive operation run by a Co-op with great grounds, a museum of Assamese village tools and fabrics and a well informed staff.
1300 and our last Safari - is time to the Eastern Range of the Park and in a Suzuki jeep. Traffic is limited to two roads and I suspect that in the season this would a bit of a motorway but this afternoon it was fine. And the animals duly appeared not far rom the roadsides.
