Monday 15 October
We set off just after 0900 for a drive to Punaka our stop for 3 nights. The drive took us high up along the side of the Haa Valley past small villages and individual farmhouses and provided spectacular views down to the valley floor.
We eventually joined the main Part to Thimphu road which was not that long ago widened to two lanes. Given that Bhutan only has a population of 700,000 as you would expect traffic was light and speeds mostly slow.
The road wound up to the xx Pass and what would have been great views over the Himalayan range but the clouds came down. We did do a tour of the 108 stupas which commemorate and action by the Royal Bhutan Army against Assamese militants who had crossed the border from India and set up camps in 2003.
The buffet at the Cafeteria where we were scheduled to have lunch looked a bit pst it so we headed down to another restaurant where we have rice and veggies !
Our destination was the Puna Cottages in Wangdue just outside Punaka. we had upgraded to a suite so there was a view over the river - although not quiet the rushing waters I had been expecting. However the wifi worked well !
Dinner was also ok with rice and a reasonable selection of veggie dishes. But the rain arrived !
