18 December 2015 - A couple of days we received a SMS from British Airways saying our flight from Hong Kong to Katmandu had been scheduled 2 hours earlier and would now stop in Dhaka.
At first glance it seemed hard to believe that the traffic between Hong Kong and Bangladesh was so much that it required and extra flight but the first SMS was swiftly followed by another saying the return flight was also now going to take 2 hours longer and would be via Bangkok. A little bit of research revealed the reason no aviation fuel in Katmandu - but more of that anon !
The flight itself was uneventful - helped by travelling business class - but we arrived in Katmandu an hour late due to congestion in Dhaka as the place was full of refuelling planes hampered by a shortage of ground equipment.
At Katmandu airport you walk into the terminal always much greater fun than the sky bridge ! Visa on Arrival was smooth but not without its challenges as you have to enter your details in a terminal; pay the USD 40 and then join the line for the actual stamp in your passport - not that it all mattered as the luggage was only just arriving.
Our driver met us and we headed off on the 10 minute drive to Dwarika Hotel a real gem and after a cup of tea into bed - thick duvets and a hot water bottle each !!
