Thursday 28 November
Today we started our voyage through the islands of southern Indonesia on the Orion a small cruise ship. It was a lazy morning and arrival at the port at 1430.
Our cabin - 323 - a modest affair at the front of the ship was more than adequate and having settled in we headed to the lounge for afternoon tea. To be honest the boat does seem to be have the possibility of becoming a floating 24 hour restaurant.
The mandatory safety drill on the boat deck was followed by cocktails before dinner which turned out to be a fiery affair. As, Stuart, who was sat next to an Australian/Irish man, took exception the the generalised statements that the UK was going down the tubes' and other such Daily Mail inspired comments !
There do seem to be only two types of expats - those who look back with rose tinted glasses on the superiority of the motherland over where ever they happen now to be living and those who can only criticise where they have come from. There is no doubt a psychological explanation for these presentations but both are equally annoying over dinner !
