Monday 20 November
Another early start as our itinerary included a morning elephant safari in Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary. The plan was a 0630 ride then back to the boat for breakfast. When we got to the park we were told that it was misty so better wait till the next ride at 0730.
Well it was misty but it actually transpired that the 0630 group was full. But no matter we were almost on our own to see our first rhino close up.
After our final on board meal and packing and fond good byes we headed by road to Kaziranga National Park which is one of the most popular parks in Assam. The road made its way initially through villages before we hit AH1 and the crazy truck drivers.
Lunch was at one of the typical Indian Tourist Highway halts and Stuart had a vegetarian Thali - I, being more cautious, had vegetable noodles fried and very hot !
As we approached the Park we were somewhat unsure of exactly where we were staying as it had just been billed as a ‘jungle resort’. As it turned out the Iora was a fully fledged hotel which was not super busy as the main season is not underway for a few weeks yet.
We found the bar and would have had a gin & tonic - regrettably no tonic - so Magpie Assam beer had to do. Luckily the Sula wine was in stock.
