Wednesday 8 February
The Andean Explorer was due to leave at 0800, so after fond farewells at the Palacio, we headed to Wanchaq station and into the tender hands of PeruRail.
Not unlike the trip on the Vistadome all was organised and our bags disappeared and our steward, Julio, took us abroad to out seats in Car A. Well being off season there was only one car but it was a Pullman with armchairs and wood panelling. The second car was the bar and observation car which was open at the back.
The journey was 10.5 hours at an average speed of 30 km per hour ! But was a ride to be recommended with lunch and afternoon tea and a bar !Not to mention the on-board fashion show.
There was only one stop at the highest point of the journey - La Raya.
