28 December 2011 - we set sail from Phomn Penh at 0615 and headed upstream to the island of Chong Koh. we moored on the river bank and trekked to the village. It was billed as a silk weaving village and the villagers certainly had some hand looms and sold scarves and the like. However it was difficult to tell what was locally made and what was not. That being said it was fun experience wandering through the village.
Some 4 hours further upstream we stopped again, this time at the village of Angkor Ban which was a typical river-side farming village. The main drama was actually mooring the boat on the highly eroded banks of the Mekong however once that was negotiated we set off to walk through the village.
It was typical of the area with wooden houses on stilts, bullock carts, a primary school and a small market and general store.
